Sasha Ray

I have been a full time artist now for 10 years. I make art as it makes me feel alive. My paintings are inspired by retro nostalgia, adventure and escapism. A sense of whimsy that challenges the mundane. I am driven by vibrant colours and music. Neon colours and sparkles remind me of summer, sunshine, freedom and carefree rebellion. I hope my bold colours make you smile and make you feel happy vibes. I love details and the thought and material process of reworking something old into something new. I am the opposite of minimal. This is why I always start my work with digital mashups, sometimes my art comprises of more than 100 layers of imagery, colouring and graffiti. I stop adding layers once it drives me crazy 😊

I often paint in the dark in my studio watching my neon spray paint magically come alive as they glow in the dark with each brushstroke and spraying direction. I like experimenting with surface textures. My paintings are a combination of digital renderings, layering, collage, embellishment of diamond dust, spray paint, oil pastels, charcoal, acrylic paint, inks and oil sticks.

Variety and change inspires me, I don’t like being tied to one genre, hence the different editions. One edition inspires another. My biggest loves that I rotate amongst my creations are comic, film, music, rainbow, symbols, sports and urban landscapes. Pop meets graffiti.

I am available for bespoke commissions. One of a kind bespoke made just for you. Some of my art are available to purchase as limited edition embellished paintings. My studio is in Heaton Chapel. Contact me for studio visits.
